Kylie Altier, of McKinley Elementary School, has received a grant from the Academic Distinction Fund for her new reading initiative, "Read with Kylie." The free initiative includes physical kits for students to check out and a website where parents can teach their children the foundational skills of reading. Altier, the 2024 Louisiana Teacher of the Year, walks through every step of a 20-minute low-prep, high-impact nightly home routine that has helped her succeed in her classroom for 11 years and with her own 4-year-old!

EBR Schools held its inaugural middle school baseball championship game on Tuesday. It was a close game between Westdale and Woodlawn Middle, with Westdale edging out a 5-4 victory in the end at Oak Villa Park. Braxton Mahan emerged as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the game due to his excellent performance on the mound and some key hits. Congratulations to both teams for their hard work and dedication throughout this first season of middle school baseball. #WeAreEBR

The Glen Oaks High School Exceptional Student Services Department held its third annual prom, marking a truly remarkable occasion with the theme "Sneaker Ball Prom." Students arrived adorned in stylish footwear, adding an extra flair to the festivities. Since its inception in 2021, this event has grown in significance. For the second year in a row, Glen Oaks extended invitations to Broadmoor High, marking a collaborative effort to enhance the experience. The event underscored the significance of integrating ESS students into school traditions and fostering enduring memories. #WeAreEBR #ebrschools

Welcome to the "Jaguar Jungle" and be aware of the strawberries, potatoes, collards, mustard greens, lettuce, cabbage, basil and much more. McKinley Elementary School on Friday celebrated the opening of its garden and 40-year partnership with University United Methodist Church. Volunteers from the church started with the garden at the former University Terrace Elementary. McKinley`s 40-member Junior Garden Club and 21-member fifth-garden team also tend to garden, which includes 32 galvanized raised beds. During the garden party, students shared information, and parents and community members were able to buy plants as well. #ebrschools #WeAreEBR

The East Baton Rouge ESports League wrapped up in thrilling fashion last weekend with champions across Madden, Super Smash Bros., and Rocket League!
Madden Championship
Coby Robinson (Tara High School) dethroned reigning champion Kameron Kelly (Scotlandville High) to claim the coveted EBREL Madden title.
Super Smash Bros. Championship
William Burris (Baton Rouge Magnet) secured a back-to-back championship victory, defeating Montral Winfield (Woodlawn High) in the finals.
Rocket League Championship
Elementary Division: Capitol Elementary rose above the competition, defeating Villa Del Rey to claim the championship title.
Middle Division: Scotlandville Middle Pre-Engineering Academy dominated the competition, securing the championship win over Southeast Middle.
High Division: Baton Rouge High School emerged victorious after a close match against last year`s champions, Tara.
Grand Finals: In an epic showdown, Baton Rouge High solidified its dominance by defeating SPEMA to become the ultimate EBREL Rocket League Grand Champions!
