Southdowns Pre-K Center

Southdown’s Center Back to School

Welcome to the Southdowns School Family! I would like to extend you a warm welcome to a new school year. The staff and I are looking forward to working with you and your child this year. We strive to provide an exciting and rewarding educational program for each and every child at Southdowns Pre-K Center. With your help, we can achieve our goal.

I’d like to take this opportunity to acquaint you with some routines, schedules and procedures of Southdowns School as well as policies adopted by our School Board. The updated Southdowns School Family Handbook can be found here. Please use the handbook for ready reference when you have a question about school policies and procedures. If further information is needed, please feel welcome to call the office at (225) 346-1127. Our school office hours at 7:30am – 4:00pm.

Member of our Southdowns office and support team are: Mary Sue Slack, Principal Elizabeth Washington, School Secretary Michael Sam, Custodian and Debra Hinton, School Clerk. We are here to help you in any way that we can.

Information on the emergency card is important for the safety and well-being of your child. Please fill the cards out carefully and completely. This information is kept on file in the office in the event of an emergency. Phone numbers are not given out at school so if you have an unlisted phone number, it is kept confidential. We must have a specific number to reach you in time of need, so please include this number. If your child is not to be released to any specific person, please note this on the card.

Please list local friends or relatives for emergency purposes. For your child’s safety and protection, only those people listed on the emergency card will be able to pick up your child during school hours unless the office receives written permission.

School hours are 8:00am – 3:25pm. Students should not arrive on campus before 8:05am. A parent or guardian must check students in through the office if you arrive after 8:30am. Early checkouts will not be allowed after 2:30pm. All carpool parents are asked to begin their line in our ‘U’ shaped driveway each morning and afternoon. Staff members will direct you and assist your child. For both our students and staff safety, and for school security reasons, visitors and parents are now allowed to go directly to the classrooms. all visitors must check in through the Administrative Office and wait in the designated area.

If you have any bus concerns, please contact the Transportation office at (225) 226-3784.

We appreciate your promptness in returning all forms to the school and look forward to working with you this year. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can help you in any way. My door is always open!

Thank you for sharing your child with us! We look forward to a successful school year.

Sincerely,
Mary Sue Slack, Principal
