TRANSPORTATION SAFETY PROGRAM

The East Baton Rouge Parish School Board recognizes the responsibility of school bus operators and the need for bus operators to practice extreme caution in transporting children to and from school.  Therefore, the School Board shall require the implementation, maintenance, and observance of a transportation safety program, which shall be enumerated in the Board's School Bus Driver Handbook.

POST-TRIP BUS INSPECTION

After completing each assigned route, and before the operator exits the bus regardless of where the bus is stopped and/or parked, the operator shall immediately check the interior of the bus for children.  The operator shall employ any means necessary to check for children who may be under seats.  The operator shall also check for damage to seats, and articles left on the bus.  Failure to check for children left on the bus shall result in the termination of the operator.

The operator shall also abide by the pre/enroute/post inspection procedure as outlined in the East Baton Rouge Parish School Bus Driver Handbook.  Bus operators shall complete each day the Pre-Trip and Post Trip Inspection Checklist form.  The primary purpose of the post-trip inspection policy is to ensure that no children are left on the bus.
