In 2017-2018, its Student of the Year was selected as a finalist for Louisiana, and the entire school was named a National Beta School of Distinction. For 2017-2018, 90 percent of students who took high school credited Algebra I scored mastery or advanced on the (End of Course assessment) EOC, 80 percent scored mastery or advanced on the geometry EOC, and four of the seventh grade students who participated in the Duke University Talent Identification Program qualified for State Recognition. In 2017, three students qualified for State Recognition, and two students qualified for Grand Recognition. Strings students have scored numerous superiors at the Solo and Small Ensemble Festival, and received awards at the District Festival. The softball team was 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 district champions and parish champions (undefeated). The 2016-2017 girls’ sixth grade basketball team was the parish champion and that same year the boys’ basketball teams were district champions and parish runners-up. In 2018-2019, Mrs. Nicole Foster (science) was a recipient of the ExxonMobil Innovative STEM Program grant, Ms. Lauren Lejeune received the Deborah Rochelle Teacher Grant in math, and Mrs. Renee Hudson (ELA) was selected from 127,000 teachers nationwide to receive a Scholastic Book Club Giveaway. These countless awards hardly do justice to all of the excellent things happening at Woodlawn Middle School.
