EBR Parish Schools to Host Largest Summer Feeding Program

Jun. 1 2016

We are excited about the opportunity to partner with BREC to provide our students with the healthy, nutritious food they have access to during the school year. This year we will feed students in 50 schools sites and as many as 25 sites that are not schools, including 14 BREC sites located throughout the parish.

Students will be served both breakfast and lunch regardless of parents and guardians income. Last summer over 322,000 students were served through our summer feeding program. Many students go hungry or end up eating unhealthy meals while not in school. Our goal is to ensure every student has access to healthy meals.

Students from the BREC location will be eating in EBRP Schools every Tuesday through Thursday beginning June 6-July 28. We will also have 630 students from the Boys and Girls Club eating breakfast and lunch in 8 schools. The Boys and Girls Club camps will operate June 6-July 14, Monday-Thursday.

These types of partnerships are critical to the success of our community. We are grateful to the city and BREC organizations like the Girls and Boys Clubs for the services they provide our students during the summer months.

For more information about the program, residents can contact the East Baton Rouge Parish School System at (225) 226-3604 or the Big Buddy Program (225) 388-9737. Baker residents can contact the City of Baton School System at (225) 774-5795 and Central residents can call the Central Community School System (225) 650-2918 or (225) 650-2919.

Attached below is a list of schools that will be serving breakfast and lunch and the times the meals will be served.
