Important information for parents of students with transportation changes or transfer routes

Transportation Procedures for Parents

  • Many of the new bus routes for displaced students require the use of transfer routes.
  • You will receive a telephone call with new route information if your student is in an impacted school, you submitted a change to your address or if your student regularly rides a transfer route. If you have an elementary student who falls into one of the three groups above, please pick up a bus card from your child’s school on Thursday, September 1 or Friday, September 2.
  • In order to ensure an orderly transition for all students, we have revised our transfer procedures.
  • All students on transfer routes will be provided with a bus card identified with colored dots representing a to-from home route and a to-from school route. The route information will correspond to parking places in the transfer lot. All students must have their bus information tag visible while at transfer.
  •  Transportation department personnel and administrators will provide students with guidance to ensure the procedure runs smoothly throughout every phase.
  • When announced by loud speaker/lead monitor, the bus unloading and reloading process will begin. No student will be allowed to exit the buses prior to the signal from the lead bus that all students will unload.
    • Elementary School Students:
      • Students with bus information tags marked with MATCHING COLOR DOTS will exit and be escorted to their connecting bus which will be located on the same side of the transfer lot where they arrived.
      •  Students with bus information tags marked with DIFFERENT COLOR DOTS will exit and be escorted to the holding area; once signaled by the designated transportation personnel, students will then be escorted by an adult to their connecting bus on the opposite side of the lot from where they arrived.
      • Middle and High School Students:
      • Students with bus information tags marked with MATCHING COLOR DOTS will exit and locate their connecting bus which will be parked on the same side of the transfer lot from where they arrived.
      • Students with Bus information tags marked with DIFFERENT COLOR DOTS will exit and locate their connecting bus which will be parked on the opposite side of the transfer lot from where they arrived.
      • Students without a tag will be assisted by transportation personnel.
      • Middle and High School students will have 4 minutes to unload and reload buses.
      • Parents/Guardians are asked to make sure school personnel are notified as address information changes to ensure updated bus information is provided.
