Pride, LA – Northeast High School will host a celebration of the school’s long tradition of academic and athletic excellence Friday, February 26 at 9:30 a.m. in the school gymnasium. Community leaders, parents, alumni are invited to share in a program honoring Northeast’s past, present and future.
The event will celebrate Northeast High being named as at 2015 Top Gains School by the Louisiana Department of Education. Superintendent Warren Drake will present Principal Brandon Levatino with the school’s Top Gains banner.
During the event, the school will also honor the three Northeast High alumni to have appeared in the Super Bowl with the display of their golden footballs. The golden football was part of the NFL Super Bowl’s 50th anniversary celebration, and allows all Super Bowl players, all-time, to present this football to their high school team. High schools across the nation received a commemorative Golden Football for every player or head coach who graduated from their school and was on an active Super Bowl roster. Northeast received balls for Doug Williams, Ruffin Hamilton and Trindon Holliday, making it one of the top recipients in the area. Other Northeast High graduates who have gone on to play professional sports will also be in attendance.
The festivities coincide with the beginning of the testing season. Levatino says he hopes to encourage students to connect with their piece in the puzzle school’s proud history.
