Scotlandville Pre-Engineering Magnet Academy Donates Custom Car to a Deserving Parent

BATON ROUGE, La. – Scotlandville Pre-Engineering Magnet Academy (SPEMA) students, along with BRCC and EBR CTEC students, worked all year to technologically enhance a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu donated by Gerry Lane Chevrolet. The futuristic transformation is complete and all the car needs now is a driver. SPEMA decided to honor one of its most supportive parents, Stephanie Matlock, by gifting her the newly improved car at 10:30 a.m. on May 17, at SPEMA.

Matlock is a mother of a SPEMA student and is also a paraprofessional at Southdowns Elementary School. “She is a very involved parent and is always there to support her child and the school despite not having a vehicle,” said SPEMA Principal Shalika Scott. “She uses city transportation to attend every event and never lets that stand in the way of being a loving and committed parent.”

The car donation was made possible through the Joshua Spencer Memorial Fund. The Spencer family donated funds throughout the year to SPEMA and those funds were used to pay for the tax, title and license. The Spencer’s will have the honor of presenting the keys at Friday’s event.
