The Children’s Coalition of GBR in partnership with Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS) is bringing the Read for the Record campaign to Red Stick. Jumpstart’s Read for the Record annual campaign to encourage reading is over 10 years old and has touched millions of lives with this shared reading experience.
On Thursday, October 27, 2016, millions of children and adults will gather to learn, laugh, and read this year’s campaign book, The Bear Ate Your Sandwich by Julia Sarcone-Roach, as part of the world’s largest shared reading experience. Read for the Record inspires adults to read with children, spurs policymakers and organizations to take action towards transformative change in early education, and puts books in the hands of more children across the country.
This experience is targeted to the Pre-K and Kindergarten children in our EBR school system. VIPS is using this day to kick off the Everybody Reads program in the schools. Thirty-three elementary schools in our district participate in this program which provides reading buddies to children who may not have many shared reading experiences at home. Additionally, local childcare settings in the EBR Early Childhood Network will participate in this program as well.
The number of participants will be tallied and submitted to Jumpstart for inclusion in the overall Read for the Record tally.Back to News
