Sherwood Middle Academic Magnet School Band and Choir students traveled to Orlando to perform at Walt Disney World’s “Festival Disney”

Sherwood Middle Academic Magnet School Band & Choir students traveled to Orlando to perform at Walt Disney World’s “Festival Disney” on March 23rd. Festival Disney is one of the premier music competitions in the United States. The groups began working on competition material in August and had the opportunity to perform in front of a panel of esteemed collegiate adjudicators from various colleges and universities across the country.

As a result of their outstanding performances, Band students received the following scores:

  • Jazz Band: all superior ratings and a sweepstakes trophy; 8th grade trombonist, Jameson Brooks, was awarded “outstanding jazz soloist” for his individual performance;
  • Intermediate Band: all superior ratings and a sweepstakes trophy; 2nd place in the country in the concert band division; awarded a Silver Mickey trophy;
  • Advanced Band: all superior ratings and a sweepstakes trophy; 1st place in the country in the concert band division; recognized as “Best in Class” and awarded a Gold Mickey trophy.

As a result of their outstanding performances, Choir students received the following scores:

  • Advanced Treble Choir: all superior ratings and a sweepstakes trophy; 3rd place in the country in the concert choir division; awarded a Bronze Mickey trophy;
  • Intermediate Mixed Choir: all superior ratings and a sweepstakes trophy; 2nd place in the country in the concert choir division; awarded a Silver Mickey trophy.
