Tara High School Set to Launch New Cyber Engineering Academy for the 2015-16 School Year

Press Release Dec. 1 2015

Baton Rouge, LA – Tara High School is set to launch its new Cyber Engineering Academy at the beginning of the 2015-16 school year that will feature integrated science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) courses specifically aimed at preparing students for higher education and the workplace in technology fields.

In partnership with Cyber Innovation Center, Tara High School’s new Cyber Academy is intended to increase the number and diversity of students entering post-secondary STEM pathways to college level courses and jobs. It is also designed to excite and support more female students to enter STEM fields.

Courses include cyber literacy, cyber science, cyber physics, Advanced Math for Engineering and Science (AMES) and cyber society. Students will be offered the opportunity to take some courses associated with the program through Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC).

It is estimated that there are 340,000 unfilled cyber security positions in the United States as a result of a serious shortage of qualified candidates. Enrollment in Tara High School’s new Cyber Engineering Academy will enable students to earn industry accepted certifications through the cyber engineering elective courses, thus providing them with distinct entry level advantages over job applicants without this training.

Tara High School has scheduled a reception and enrollment night for students and parents of incoming 9th graders interested in its cyber engineering program on Monday, June 29 at 5 p.m. The school is located at 9002 Whitehall Avenue in Baton Rouge.
