Gifted & Talented

Scholastic Academy program

East Baton Rouge Parish School System, in an effort to identify potentially academically gifted children in Pre-K-6th grade, created the Scholastic Academy program. Students meeting Scholastic Academy criteria benefit from exposure to a gifted self-contained or resource environment for a period of two years.  Students will need to maintain the established grade criteria to remain in the program.  During the two year participation in the program, the student will be evaluated to determine eligibility for gifted education according to state criteria.

Students in 7th to 12th grade can be recommended for Scholastic Academy if they move into the parish from other districts, states, countries, or transfer from private or parochial schools.  These students must first pass Scholastic Academy district criteria.  All Scholastic Academy students will be referred to Pupil Appraisal Services for a full evaluation.  Participation will be limited to two years if the student is not identified as gifted via the Pupil Appraisal Services evaluation during this time.

Instruction will be differentiated according to the student’s academic needs. Rigorous and challenging activities are provided to create an enriched and accelerated environment.
