Founded in 1955, we are proud of the programs and excellence that Buchanan Elementary has nurtured in Old South Baton Rouge and throughout the city. We pride ourselves on being a traditional, gifted and talented (art, music, theater) school with a rich history of providing an accelerated and rigorous curriculum. We nurture the social, emotional and academic needs of our diverse population in a positive environment. Buchanan offers strings, music, PE and art classes, along with clubs such as Junior Beta. Talented art, music and theater services are available for qualified students. We have an inclusive learning environment, caring staff, diverse population, creative and rigorous academics, and many leadership opportunities.
