Amy Jones, a true Louisiana girl and product of public education, was born in Alexandria, raised in Bernice and Walker, and then raised her children in Chalmette and finally Baton Rouge where they attended 7 EBR schools. She graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature, followed by an Associate of Applied Science in Industrial Technology Management from Nunez Community College, and finally obtaining a Masters of Liberal Studies in Networking, Information, and Telecommunication from Fort Hays State University, Kansas.
Amy has held CTTIE certifications to teach high school Computer Networking. At Nunez Community College, where she was an Assistant Professor of Computer Technology, she taught college/high school dual enrolment Cisco Networking Academy courses to students from Orleans and St. Bernard Parish public high schools. While teaching at Nunez, Amy was a nominee for NISOD Teacher of the Year, assisted program accreditation through SACS and NAIT, was National Technical Honor Society Faculty Advisor, served on the curriculum committee, wrote successful technology grants, and was a member of Faculty Senate. Her industry-based certifications include CCNA, CCNP, CCAI, A+, and Network+.
Following her swift exit from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, Amy relocated back to Baton Rouge and began her career with the East Baton Rouge Parish School System’s IT team. She began as a Network Specialist and moved up in the ranks to Wide Area Network Specialist, Wide Area Network Manager, Program Manager of Network and Operations, Director of Management Information Systems, and currently, Chief Technology Officer. She attributes her rise and longevity to patience, endurance, and following God’s timing in her life.
Throughout her 20+ years of service in these educational settings, Amy has continued to advocate for the advancement of not only her students, but also her peers. Knowing that working with technology can present challenges, she strives to educate and facilitate the transfer of knowledge so that the students, faculty, staff, and families of EBR can seamlessly and transparently utilize the technology in the classrooms and offices with ease and success. With a customer service mindset, Amy steers the helm of a richly diverse Department of Technology Services that reaches into every department and school in the district. All pathways to education lead through technology, and with over 40 dedicated staff members covering the district’s infrastructure, hardware and software platforms for student, financial, and employee data, technology resources, district phones, and helpdesk, Amy and her dedicated team work to pave that pathway with advanced technological resources and support. After a year of COVID-19 challenges, district leadership turnovers, and unprecedented virtual learning curves, the department looks forward to supporting the continued mission of educating our students in a fast-paced digital world.
Amy is happily married and together they have 12 children, 18 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. She loves adventure, dancing, and spending time with friends and family.
The Finance Department provides oversight to the payroll, benefits, accounts payable, grants, and property control functions for the school system while maintaining compliance with generally accepted accounting principals and all applicable laws.
