Winter Weather Update #4

After careful consideration, we have made the decision to remain closed this Friday, January 24, 2025, out of an abundance of caution for our students, families, and staff. While we strongly believe that all of our students need to be in school to continue the important work ahead of us, safety is our number one priority. We must err on the side of caution to ensure the well-being of everyone in our community.

The extra day will allow us time to assess our facilities, address any concerns or repairs that may be needed, and ensure our 400+ buses are fully prepared for smooth operations on Monday.

We are looking forward to starting fresh together and returning to normalcy on Monday, January 27, 2025. On Monday, we will come back energized, ready to learn, and prepared to take on the rest of the school year with focus and determination. Let’s use this unexpected time to reset, recharge, and get ready for a strong return to classrooms.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support as we work to make the best decisions for our students and staff. Stay safe, take care, and we’ll see you Monday morning, ready to hit the ground running!

Winter Weather Update #3

Due to the continued winter weather and the potential for icy road conditions, EBR Schools will remain closed on Thursday, January 23. We will continue to monitor the forecast and work with local officials to determine if we will reopen on Friday, January 24, 2025. Please continue to monitor our official communication channels for additional updates.

Winter Weather Update #2

Dear EBR Schools Families,

Due to the forecasted winter weather conditions and for the safety of our students and staff, all EBR Schools will also be closed on Wednesday, January 22.

Please monitor our official communication channels for any further updates. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. We encourage everyone to stay safe and warm during this time.

Winter Storm Update #1

To prioritize everyone’s safety, all EBR Schools will be closed on Tuesday, January 21st, in addition to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday, January 20th. Out of an abundance of care and understanding for our families, we will not require remote learning during this time. We understand that potential power outages and hazardous conditions may affect our ability to connect. And for some of our students, this weather may bring a first-time experience—snow!

This weekend is an opportunity to focus on what matters most: staying warm, staying safe, and cherishing time with loved ones. Let’s celebrate those moments while also preparing for the challenges that winter weather can bring. Please take all necessary precautions to keep your family safe and comfortable during the storm. We will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as needed via email, our website, social media channels and local news outlets.

Hurricane Francine: Update #7

Power has been restored to all EBRPSS schools and sites. Normal operations will resume for all students and employees tomorrow, Friday, September 13th.

Hurricane Francine: Update #6

Dear East Baton Rouge Parish Families,

I hope this message finds you safe and well following the impact of Hurricane Francine.

The East Baton Rouge Parish School System and all administrative sites will reopen tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 13, 2024. However, we are still monitoring the following sites due to lingering power outages:  Glasgow Middle and Westdale Middle

We will have additional updates on those facilities by no later than 6 pm today. For the latest information, please visit ebrschools.org.

We understand that the aftermath of the storm may have affected some families differently. If your family continues to face challenges or if you require support, please do not hesitate to reach out to your school administration. We are here to assist you in any way we can.Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to welcoming our students back to schools tomorrow.

Hurricane Francine: Update #5

EBR School System is assessing our campuses and staff availability to evaluate the timeline for the safe return to schools following Hurricane Francine. Cleanups and site assessments are underway. We hope that all of our families stayed safe through the storm, and we look forward to seeing everyone back in school soon. Please check our website, social media, and local news stations for updates on when schools will reopen.

Tropical Storm Francine: Update #4

By now, you have all received communications regarding the closure of district facilities and cancellation of all out-of-school activities for Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 12.  While the safety and well-being of our students, staff and their families remain our top priorities, we also want to limit the disruption to student learning. Therefore, as students are dismissed from campuses on Tuesday, they will be sent home with assignments via Chromebooks and/or printed packets. We ask that students complete these assignments to the best of their abilities. For those most impacted by the storm and may not have access to the internet and other resources, makeup opportunities will be provided upon their return to school. Transitioning to remote learning structures will minimize learning loss and decrease in-school makeup time that may be required later on for students and staff.

Tropical Storm Francine: Update #3

EBR schools will follow normal dismissal times and procedures today, Tuesday, September 10, 2024. All EBRPSS sites and offices are closed Wednesday, September 11, 2024 and Thursday, September 12, 2024.

In anticipation of the storm, we want to keep you informed about the potential impact on traffic and student transportation. We expect heavy traffic and delays as families prepare for the hurricane’s arrival. Additionally, our transportation services may experience disruptions as we prioritize the safety of our students, staff, and families.

We encourage you to plan ahead for pick-up and drop-off times, and to exercise caution while traveling during this period. Please stay tuned to local news sources and our district website for further updates as we closely monitor the situation. We will continue to follow guidance from our local authorities.
