Happy 30th Anniversary BRCVPA!!!

In 1996, Julia Law, an educator, repurposed and renamed Walnut Hill Elementary School into a fine arts magnet school. This school would be named the Baton Rouge Center for Visual & Performing Arts (BRCVPA).

BRCVPA is a unique place to learn “BIG” and have lots of fun! Our theme for the 2026-27 School Year is “30 Years in the Spotlight!” At BRCVPA, we understand the importance of having positive relationships between our teachers, students, parents, families, and community. BRCVPA is a “dream team” that works together to help our students be excellent in the fine arts (visual art, drama/theater, dance, instrumental music, and vocal music); and excellent in the core subjects (English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies) through arts-integration.

BRCVPA is currently housed at our magnificent 21st century school building and campus at 2040 S. Acadian Thruway, Baton Rouge, LA 70808. The campus is designed to enhance our strong fine arts program and rigorous arts-integrated curriculum.

In our classrooms, you will observe our students learning creatively at high levels and engaging with each other collaboratively. In our arts wing, you will hear the joyful sounds of the choir singing a new song coupled with the orchestra practicing their musical selections. You will see our students learning dances of various styles and cultures and getting messy creating in the art rooms. Onstage, in the Grand All-Star Auditorium, you will see our students practicing for their next drama production. In our beautiful courtyard, you may catch our students performing on the stage of the BRCVPA Amphitheater.
