McKinley is the oldest high school established for African American students in East Baton Rouge Parish. Its first graduating class was in 1916, and those four students became the first African American high school graduates in Louisiana. McKinley’s long history as a premier educational institution in the Baton Rouge community continues into the 21st century. Academics is the main focus of the educational experience, and students have opportunities to follow curricula for jobs and college preparation. Arts have an important place in the curriculum, too, with courses in music, dance, theater and visual arts.
I am honored to lead a community dedicated to the success and well-being of children. At McKinley Senior High School, we prioritize the care of them above all else. We believe that a nurturing and supportive environment is the foundation for academic achievement and personal growth. We hold high academic expectations for all our students. Our dedicated teachers and staff are committed to providing rigorous and engaging learning experiences that challenge our students to reach their full potential. We strive to cultivate a love for learning and to equip our students with the skills and knowledge necessary for success in a rapidly changing world. We are filled with hope and optimism for the bright futures that lie ahead for each of our students. We believe in their abilities and are excited to see the amazing things they will accomplish. Together, as a community, we will work towards creating a future where every student can thrive and succeed. Thank you for entrusting us with your children's education.
