East Baton Rouge Virtual Academy (EBRVA) is a free, online EBR School System public school for students in grades PreK through 12. Enrollment is open to all families within the East Baton Rouge School district. EBR Virtual Academy has been in existence since 2016, and originally served students in grades 9 through 12 only. In partnership with Northdale Academy, students received blended learning support and had the option to participate in face-to-face school activities. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the EBR School System established the Virtual Support Program to provide online instructional support for students in grades Kindergarten through five. Students remained enrolled in their schools of record, but received daily live instruction from the Virtual Support Program teachers. The Virtual Support Program also partnered with Proximity Learning to collaborate around improving existing school partnership operations and oversight. In May 2021, the EBR School System Board approved the expansion of the 9-12 EBR Virtual Academy to include grades PreK through 8. In fall of 2021, EBR Virtual Academy launched as a fully functioning online school for families who desire to continue learning in a virtual environment.
