The 2023 Milken Educator Award recipients were lauded during a recent three-day national forum in Los Angeles. Included in that number was Derrick Winn, a math and science teacher at Crestworth Elementary School.
Winn learned of his Milken honor in February during a surprise assembly at Crestworth. At the forum, he was among those receiving the $25,000 prize from Milken Educator Awards founder Lowell Milken and Milken Family Foundation co-founder and President Mike Milken.
For the 2023-24 school year, 68 Milken Educators received the awards as part of the Milken Family Foundation’s journey to the 3,000th Milken Educator. 2024 will reach $75 million in individual financial prizes spanning the length of the initiative and more than $144 million invested in the Milken Educator Award national network overall.
The theme for this year’s forum was “Unleashing Educator Leaders.”
Recipients met with veteran Milken Educators and education leaders from across the country to begin their lifetime membership to the national Milken Educator network.
