Principal Kyle Fontenette of Mayfair Laboratory School has been recognized as one of nine finalists for the 2026 state Principal of the Year by the Louisiana Department of Education.
Under Fontenette’s leadership, Mayfair was named a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. Fontenette, who holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree from LSU, has been the Mayfair principal for five years and in education for 15 years.
All Teacher and Principal of the Year state-level honorees will be honored at the 19th annual Cecil J. Picard Educator Excellence Awards Gala on July 16 at the World War II Museum in New Orleans.
“These educators are making exceptional gains with students, guiding them to achieve at the highest levels in the state. Their commitment to student success exemplifies Louisiana’s teaching profession,” the LDOE said.
