Doug Williams, the former Chaneyville High School (now Northeast High) and Grambling State quarterback who won a Super Bowl with the Washington Redskins, was finally able to receive his East Baton Rouge Parish School System Athletic Hall of Fame jacket. He was presented with the jacket during his football camp on Saturday at Memorial Stadium. Williams was unable to attend the ceremony on May 8 at the Capitol Park Museum when eight greats were inducted in the inaugural EBRPSS Hall of Fame class. Other inductees were Harvey Adger, Seimone Augustus, Billy Cannon, Bob Pettit, Eddie Robinson, Danielle Scott-Arubba and Ryan Theriot. Williams excelled in football and basketball at the former Chaneyville High. Following a stellar career at Grambling under Coach Robinson, Williams was the first Black quarterback to be selected in the first round of the NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In 1998, Williams led Washington to 42-10 win over Denver in Super Bowl XXII, setting NFL records that included most passing yards and most touchdowns.
