EBR Schools’ Digital Citizenship Week (Sept. 21-24) is encouraging students to make safe, smart and responsible choices when using technology in the classroom, at home, or online.
On Wednesday, Sept. 23, the EBR Schools Department of Technology Services is encouraging everyone to wear orange to support responsible technology use, online safety, positive digital behavior and the impact of their digital choices.
As technology continues to play an important role in students’ daily lives, EBR Schools is emphasizing the importance of being responsible digital citizens, including making thoughtful choices when using cellphones, social media and other online platforms.
Digital Citizenship Week is part of an effort to keep digital safety and responsibility at the forefront.
Beginning this school year, the Department of Technology Services is introducing monthly digital citizenship focus topics. Each month, schools will receive resources centered on a specific digital citizenship topic that educators can incorporate into classroom conversations and activities.
The September focus is the “Acceptable Use Policy,” which helps students understand expectations for appropriate and responsible use of district technology.
The monthly topics will provide K-12 educators with age-appropriate lesson guides, discussion prompts and other resources designed to make digital citizenship an ongoing part of the student experience.
EBR Schools is also encouraging students to pause and think about the potential impact of their digital choices. It is a message that is reinforced in the district’s 2026-27 Student Rights, Responsibilities and Discipline Policy Handbook, which outlines expectations for responsible technology use, including cellphone use, social media, cyberbullying, online threats and the recording or sharing of inappropriate content.
Before sending a message, posting on social media, recording an incident or sharing someone else’s content, students are encouraged to consider whether their actions could harm, embarrass, threaten or disrupt others.
A quick decision to record, post or share can reach a much larger audience than intended. Digital citizenship helps students understand that their online actions can affect themselves, their classmates, their families and their school community.
EBR Schools encourages students, educators and families to use Digital Citizenship Week as an opportunity to begin meaningful conversations about technology use and to continue those conversations throughout the school year.
