The East Baton Rouge Parish School System is proud to announce the launch of Teach EBR, an innovative teacher preparation program designed to recruit, develop and retain high-quality educators committed to serving students across the district.
Teach EBR offers a structured, supportive pathway for aspiring educators — including recent graduates, career changers and current school-based staff — to enter the teaching profession while receiving hands-on training, coaching and mentorship. The program is designed to address critical teacher shortages in high-need areas while building a strong, sustainable pipeline of educators for district schools.
“Teach EBR represents a strategic investment in our people and our community,” said Superintendent LaMont Cole. “We are creating opportunities for individuals who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of students, while ensuring they receive the support and preparation needed to be successful in the classroom.”
Participants in Teach EBR will engage in an intensive summer training experience followed by a yearlong residency, where they will teach in EBRPSS schools while continuing their professional learning, including:
- Comprehensive summer training focused on instructional practices, classroom management and student engagement.
- Ongoing coaching and mentorship from experienced educators.
- A clear pathway to teacher certification.
- Opportunities to earn while learning in a supportive, collaborative environment.
Teach EBR prioritizes recruiting candidates who reflect the diversity and strengths of the Baton Rouge community, including paraprofessionals, substitute teachers and individuals seeking a meaningful career transition into education.
“Our goal is not only to recruit great teachers, but to develop and retain them,” said Dr. Lisa Smothers, chief officer for Human Resources. “TeachE BR is about building a strong foundation for long-term success — for our educators and for our students.”
Applications for the inaugural Teach EBR cohort are now open. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply and learn more about the program by visiting bit.ly/teachebr.
