Claiborne, Capitol Elementary Schools Celebrate Student Reading Gains Through Tutoring Program

Claiborne and Capitol elementary schools have proudly earned recognition as two of the top 10 schools nationwide for their remarkable student achievement growth, thanks to the innovative Teach For America Ignite tutoring model.

On Nov. 4, Claiborne hosted an Ignite Fellowship celebration to show visitors firsthand how students are making strides in reading through Teach For America’s Ignite high-dosage tutoring program.

First- through fourth-grade students are participating in Ignite to increase their reading proficiency. Ignite tutors serving our community are bringing inspiration and focused support to students who are not yet reading at grade level across 10 partner schools in East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana and Pointe Coupee parishes.

Claiborne and Capitol are among more than 150 Ignite partners nationwide. Ignite is a virtual tutoring program that matches college students with elementary school students who need help in reading.

Founded in 1990, Teach For America works in partnership with communities across the country to expand educational opportunities for children.
