Margaret Rodrigue


"Wildwood Elementary teacher Margaret Rodrigue was a recipient of the 2020 Shell Regional Lab Challenge award. Ms. Rodrigue received $5000 worth of classroom materials from Carolina Biological Supply Company as well as additional science materials and supplies. In addition to the materials, she will also receive support from NSTA through professional development via a cohort of like-minded educators. The total value of this award is $10,000.
To enter the Shell Science Lab Regional Challenge, K-12 teachers were asked to describe their school's current laboratory resources, explain why laboratory upgrades and support would benefit the students, and describe their innovative approach to science instruction. Ms. Rodrigue's proposal was one of only three chosen from the region, which is paired with the Shell Chemical Geismar manufacturing site."

EBR Bus Operator Freddie Phillips was named the National Special-Needs Bus Driver of the Year by AMF-Bruns of America on October 22, 2019. An article by Glasgow Middle School Latin, Classical Mythology and Roman Technology teacher,  Nathalie Roy, was recently published in the Cambridge University Press.  The article, “Roman Technology:  Using STEM to Teach the Classical World,” focuses on the blending of the humanities curriculum and STEM collaboration and integration.  She is a National Board Certified Teacher and serves as the president of the Louisiana Classical Association.read more

Bonnie Chelette, an Instructional Technology Facilitator in the Technology Integration Department, has been chosen as part of the selective Google for Education Certified Innovator Program. This is the first time an employee from EBRPSS has been selected for the program. The Google for Education Certified Innovator Program recognizes and supports top educators around the globe who are using technology to solve meaningful challenges in education.

Toney Riggins, better known as ‘Mr. Warehouse’ is the Warehouse Specialist for the East Baton Rouge Parish School System. As an Aramark employee, he makes sure that the items in the warehouse are always kept in order. No matter the problem Mr. Toney can fix it! Words cannot express how much he means to everyone that comes into contact with him. Each conversation is always pleasant and you will always leave reassured knowing you will receive whatever you came to the warehouse for on time. The warehouse stores equipment for EBRPSS schools as well as the equipment for the Child Nutrition Program for East Baton Rouge Parish. Mr. Toney always greets everyone with a pleasant voice and a smile. But most of all, he will always get the job done no matter what the day brings...Read More

LEE MAGNET HIGH SCHOOL GIRL’S BASKETBALL COACH

In just three short years Valencia Wilson, the head coach of Lee Magnet High School’s Girls Basketball team, took a non-existent program and turned it into a championship program. It is the first girls basketball title for Lee Magnet High and the second time Wilson earned the coveted Coach of the Year award. A statewide panel of sportswriters selected Wilson after she led the Patriots to a 34-2 record and the Division II select title. With no seniors on the championship team and a culture of hard work and high expectations established, Wilson will look to repeat history in 2020.read more

Belaire High's very own Juvon Pollard was selected as a quarter-finalist for the 2020 GRAMMY Museum's Music Educator Award! Over 3,000 nominations were sent in and only 189 music teachers were selected for the annual honor.
