🌟 Learning is being ignited and re-ignited at Capitol Elementary.
On Tuesday, the school hosted a launch event for its Teach For America Ignite Fellowship, now in its second year of providing virtual high-dosage tutoring for Capitol students.
District leaders, donors, BESE members, LSU School of Education representatives, and elected officials joined Teach For America to observe third graders in action during tutoring sessions.
“We’re just excited to have it again this year,” said proud Capitol Principal Karla Johnson. “Once you have the buy-in from the students, you can’t do anything but excel, and that’s what we’re seeing here at Capitol.”
Through its Ignite program, Teach For America aims to double literacy rates for Louisiana third graders by 2030 in the communities it serves. This year, more than 300 tutors will partner with 525 students across area parishes.
