Niles Haymer II from Baton Rouge Magnet High School won the inaugural 100 Black Men of America Oratorical Competition. At just 16 years old, he expressed his confidence that his speech, titled βWhat Leadership Means To Me,β would captivate the judges. He felt a strong connection to every word he chose, which contributed to his success in the contest.

Emily Adams is an 8th grade ELA teacher at Southeast Middle! In her second year at Southeast and eighth year teaching, all with EBR, she loves building meaningful relationships with her students and exposing them to the power of literacy. She believes literacy can open doors and help students see new possibilities for their lives. Fun fact, Emily is a published poet with more than 40 publications!

Ellis, director of the Ablaze Youth Choir of Baton Rouge, was honored at the 41st annual Stellar Awards in Charlotte, North Carolina, recognizing top artists in gospel music.
The East Baton Rouge Parish School System is advising families that school bus transportation may experience delays during the Friday afternoon commute home because of weather and road conditions across the parish. Transportation staff members are working to safely transport students while navigating possible heavy traffic, flooded areas and impacted roadways caused by
changing weather conditions.
District officials said student safety remains the top priority as drivers continue routes throughout the parish. The district appreciates the understanding and cooperation of families and the community during the weather event.
