The East Baton Rouge Parish School Board Scheduled to Discuss and Vote on Levying Millage on the 2024 Assessment Roll
Baton Rouge, LA – Notice is hereby given pursuant to Article 7, Section 23(C) of the Constitution and R.S. 47:1705(B) that a public hearing of the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board in East Baton Rouge Parish will be held at the EBRPSS Central Office Board Room, located at 1050 South Foster Drive, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. The public. hearing will be to consider levying additional or increased millage rates without further voter approval or adopting the adjusted millage rates after reassessment and rolling forward to rates not to exceed the prior year’s maximum. The estimated amount of tax revenues to be collected in the next tax year from the increased millage is $224,322,831, and the amount of increase in taxes attributable to the millage increase is $12,931,945.
The East Baton Rouge Assessor’s office requires announcement of notice to adopt a resolution to be placed on the Assessment Roll for 2025 Taxes.
Narrative of Services: Notice is hereby given that the Parish School Board of the Parish of East Baton Rouge, State of Louisiana, acting as the governing authority of Consolidated School District No. 1 of the Parish of East Baton Rouge, State of Louisiana (the “District”), plans to consider and adopt at its meeting on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. at the Parish School Board Office, 1050 South Foster Drive, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the Resolution, as required by law for the Office of the Assessor no later than June 1, 2025 for the purpose of levying millages effective on the 2025 Assessment Roll.
Expected Outcomes: The District will be placed on the Assessor’s Tax Rolls for 2025.
Key Performance Indicator(s): The District will be able to collect all voted upon property tax millages for 2025 Tax Rolls.
Timeline: The deadline to submit information to the East Baton Rouge Parish Assessor’s office is June 2025.
In addition to validating the departments encompassing the Division of Finance, which are payroll, benefits, grants, accounting, property control, and retirement, the Division of Finance monitors district-wide budgetary spending to ensure that all transactions are in line with federal and state laws. The division produces the annual budget and controls the income and expenditures throughout the district keeping a mindful eye on making sure that the taxpayer’s money is utilized to support the advancement and progression of the students within East Baton Rouge Parish School System.
The Accounting Department is one of six functional areas of the Finance Department. The goal of the Accounting Department is to provide the most efficient and high quality service to accommodate the needs of the employees and vendors of East Baton Rouge Parish School System while maintaining fiscal integrity in all transactions.
The goal of the Grants Department is to provide oversight to the grants of the East Baton Rouge Parish School System while maintaining compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and all applicable laws.
The goal of the Property Control Department is to provide internal control of properties owned by East Baton Rouge Parish School System. These properties include assets valued at $5,000 or greater, as well as items deemed to have a “street resale value” at a cost of $1,000 or greater, which are purchased or donated to the school system. While Property Control maintains control of property to insure compliance with school board policies and state laws principals, directors, and/or supervisors are directly responsible for inventories at their locations.
The goal of the Retirement Department is to fulfill requirements of the State Retirement System for certification and contribution corrections. It is also to assist employees participating in retirement with necessary information while maintaining compliance with all applicable laws.
