Employees of the East Baton Rouge Parish School System will be receiving $16,000 from the Louisiana Unclaimed Property program. The program, led by state Treasurer John Schroder, has over $1 billion in unclaimed money belonging to Louisiana residents.

The EBRPSS Human Resources Department has been working with the state Department of Treasury to search for unclaimed property on behalf of its employees. The program titled “The Great Employee Give Back of 2023” revealed 86 employees had unclaimed property totaling $16,000. As a way to engage the employees, the Human Resources Department conducted a survey to check their status with the Louisiana Department of Treasury. Schroder will be presenting the checks to Superintendent Sito Narcisse on Monday, April 3, at 10:30 a.m.

EBRPSS is dedicated to inspiring, cultivating and producing a modern workforce prepared to create a robust and thriving economy. The partnership with the Department of Treasury to check for unclaimed money is an example of the commitment of the district and Dr. Narcisse, who has been working diligently to raise employee salaries across the district.

The digital divide in America remains a cause for concern with one-quarter of students lacking adequate home internet access, and it continues to stifle educational progress for too many children. That reality is about to shift for EBR high school students.

T-Mobile has awarded EBR Schools a $2 million grant to provide 11,500 new 4G LTE Chromebooks with Wi-Fi and hotspot upgrades, allowing our students to access internet-based education resources and platforms anywhere they are working. As school districts nationwide transition to digital learning platforms, education can have fewer physical limitations than ever. This enhanced access will ensure our students are a few clicks closer to success.

On Thursday, March 30, EBR Schools, in partnership with T-Mobile, will host a “Chromebook Celebration” to kick off the distribution of these new devices. The media event will be at 10 a.m. at Liberty Magnet High School. Superintendent Sito Narcisse, district IT leaders and T-Mobile experts will be available to demonstrate the innovative advancements and answer any questions about this program and its functions.

This program is another example of how EBRPSS continues to strategically align with business and community partners to combine resources for the successful outcomes of our students — in every school, every classroom, every day.

Please let us know if you have any questions, and we look forward to welcoming you to this event.

Scotlandville Magnet High School and the East Baton Rouge Parish School System will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the unveiling of a law courtroom at 9 a.m. Thursday, March 30, at the school, 9870 Scotland Ave.

Scotlandville offers several programs, ranging from its academic magnet program to the law and government program.  The school’s Center of Excellence for Government Affairs is a four-year, full-day program for students entering ninth grade and interested in exploring law, law enforcement, the legal system, criminal investigation, forensics, and the study of criminal intent.

At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, participants will get an exclusive sneak peek at the modern high school courtroom, complete with a judge’s bench, the jury box, deliberation room and more.  Students in the program will gain direct experience in the justice system with partnerships with local law enforcement, attorneys, judges, legislators and other members of government-related professions.

EBRPSS strives to promote a culture of educational excellence and to create transformative learning experiences for all students.  The unveiling of the law courtroom is yet another demonstration of the district’s commitment to providing an enriching academic experience.
