The East Baton Rouge Parish School System invites you to join us in a dedication ceremony for the Eva Legard Center for Coastal and Environmental Studies on Thursday, July 19, 2022. We will be dedicating this site and sharing the new opportunities being provided to students, families and the community.
The East Baton Rouge Parish School System continues to prioritize safety and security by offering training throughout the summer to prepare school leaders for the upcoming school year. This morning, Robert McGarner, Director of School Security, and the Baton Rouge Police Department’s Special Response Team coordinated an active shooter bus
The state of Louisiana is currently ranked 49th in the nation in reading proficiency and according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (2020), workers who did not graduate high school have the lowest median weekly earnings ($592), which is 3 times less than people with the highest education levels.

Meeting their tutors face-to-face brought some exciting moments for students at Capitol Elementary on Friday. Eight college tutors from across the country visited campus to meet the students they’ve been working with online this semester through the Teach For America Ignite Fellowship program. These tutors represented eight states, including Louisiana, Maryland, Minnesota, New York and Massachusetts. 💛💙

The Istrouma High Indians are rolling to Shreveport to take on Booker T. Washington on Friday night in the first round of the state playoffs! 🏈🔥
Istrouma is one of five EBR Schools all going on the road for the playoffs — joining Liberty, Belaire, Glen Oaks and Northeast.️💛💙

🎯 Games, teamwork and other extracurricular activities brought together students from across the district on Wednesday for the Youth Leadership Summit at the Professional Development Center.
Hosted by the Exceptional Student Services Department, the summit promoted inclusivity inside and outside the classroom and helped unite students with disabilities and their nondisabled peers. I CARE student ambassadors also helped facilitate the day’s activities. The project was funded through a grant awarded by Unified Sports through Special Olympics. 🏅

❤️💙“Thank you for your service” was a common refrain from Woodlawn Elementary students during the school’s Veterans Day program on Tuesday.
Students honored attending veterans with salutes, poems, songs and a touching slideshow that recognized Woodlawn’s family veterans.
The guest speaker, GilbertJohnson, an 82-year-old U.S. Army veteran, spoke with students about the importance of lessons he first learned in the military: discipline, learning, and leadership. ❤️💙
