All about AI. 🤖✨ Volunteers In Public Schools hosted its Partners In Education Luncheon on Thursday at the Main Library on Goodwood Boulevard, centered around “AI in Education." Educators, community partners and business leaders came together to explore how artificial intelligence is shaping the future of teaching and learning.
The panel included:
Maverick Hobbs, senior, Liberty Magnet High School.
Amy E. Jones, chief technology officer, EBR Schools.
Dr. Andrew Schwarz, faculty coordinator for artificial intelligence, LSU.
🎓 Hobbs, 17, shared his perspective as a student using AI for learning and college essays:
I think the biggest thing is not getting caught up in the moment of getting worried about what can AI do to harm us. I think we should think about what it can do to help us," Hobbs said. "I think we should be thinking about how we innovate, how we can automate and how we can provide using the new technology."
The event also celebrated a generous $19,000 donation from Atmos Energy to support VIPS programs.
The PIE Luncheon series fosters collaboration among community partners and highlights key topics impacting local education.

📚 Targeting Truancy
The Office of Child Welfare and Attendance held a truancy workshop this week to support parents of students with attendance challenges. Attendance was required for parents whose child had five or more unexcused absences so far this semester.
These quarterly sessions help families understand the importance of daily school attendance, identify barriers that prevent students from attending regularly and connect parents with resources to overcome those challenges.
This week’s session focused on middle school families, with over 700 parents invited across three workshops. Future sessions will be held for high school and elementary families as part of the district’s ongoing effort to promote student success and engagement.

Families lined up for trunk or treat, La Belle Aire braved a haunted house, the Bulldogs played some fun and games. We hope you stayed safe tonight. Until next week we’ll start off right. 👻🤣
