Before being recognized on the national level, track coach Ursula Harris was honored with a sendoff reception Dec. 13 at Scotlandville Magnet High School.
Last spring, Harris led Scotlandville to the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Division I indoor and Class 5A outdoor championship. In July, she was named National Coach of the Year by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association and is being honored during the USTFCCCA conference on Dec. 16-19 in Orlando, Florida.
“It’s so special to me,” Harris said. “I get to represent Louisiana, as well as our school, our track teams and our kids because of their hard work. I’m kind of behind the scenes because they are the ones who actually did all of the hard work.” In five years at the school, Harris has also been a part of championship teams in 2022 (5A outdoor) and 2023 (5A outdoor and Division I indoor).
