EBR Schools Makes History with Record-High Performance Scores

The East Baton Rouge Parish School System has achieved historic gains in the latest School Performance Scores and letter grades released by the Louisiana Department of Education on Nov. 20.

The district’s overall SPS increased to 72.4, marking a solid “C” and the highest score in district history. Eleven schools posted full letter-grade growth to “C” or better, and the district earned an “A” in Strength of Diploma and a “B” for its highest-ever graduation rate. English learners, or economically disadvantaged students. With its latest gains, EBR Schools stands 10th in the state for overall student growth.

Superintendent LaMont Cole credited the milestone to the unwavering efforts of educators, students, families and community partners.

“Our success did not happen by chance,” Cole said. “It is the direct result of the dedication of every teacher, support professional, secretary, clerk, custodian, bus driver, food service worker, paraprofessional, counselor, nurse, principal, assistant principal, dean, instructional specialist, central office staff member, and community partner. Every one of you helped move this system forward, and I am profoundly grateful.”

Districtwide Achievements

  • 72.4 – Highest SPS in district history
  • “A” Strength of Diploma rating – First time in district history
  • “B” Graduation rate – Highest in district history
  • 96% of schools earned an A, B, or C in Progress
  • 61.7% of high school students earned Basic + Advanced Credentials (up 15.6%)
  • 88% of direct-run high schools increased their SPS
  • All alternative schools earned a “C” or higher
  • 44 direct-run schools increased their overall SPS
  • 12 schools ranked in the Top 10% statewide for serving students with disabilities, English learners, or economically disadvantaged students
  • EBR ranks 10th in the state overall for growth

  • Highland Elementary – No. 9 in Louisiana for K–8 Growth
  • Mayfair Laboratory School – No. 7 in Louisiana for K–8 Achievement
  • Baton Rouge Magnet High School – No. 6 in Louisiana for High School Achievement
  • Arlington Preparatory Academy – 100% graduation rate
