This week, one of the best to do this work has retired. Join us in celebrating and thanking Laura Williams for 35 years of extraordinary service to the East Baton Rouge Parish School System.
Her EBR story began as a first-grade teacher at Baker Heights Elementary under the leadership of Mrs. Lucille Johnson. From the classroom, she went on to become a transformational leader at LaSalle Elementary, where she helped lead the school from a one-star rating to an “A” school. She later served the district in numerous leadership roles, culminating in her service as Chief of Schools.
For 35 years, Laura has poured her heart into EBR Schools. She has taught, mentored, encouraged and led countless students, teachers and school leaders, leaving an impact that will continue long after her retirement.
And perhaps the best reflection of her career is the question that guided it all:
“What is best for children?”
That question shaped her leadership, her decisions and the way she showed up for our schools every day.
As Laura begins her next chapter, we are grateful not only for what she accomplished, but for who she was to the people of EBR Schools: a trusted leader, a champion for children, a mentor to educators and a beloved member of our EBR family.
“I was blessed to serve, blessed to lead, and blessed to do so alongside people who cared deeply about children. EBR Schools will always be part of my story and will forever remain in my heart.”
Laura, thank you for 35 years of giving your very best to our children, our schools and our community. Your legacy is woven into the story of EBR Schools, and you will always have a place in our hearts.

The East Baton Rouge Parish School System is advising families that school bus transportation may experience delays during the Friday afternoon commute home because of weather and road conditions across the parish. Transportation staff members are working to safely transport students while navigating possible heavy traffic, flooded areas and impacted roadways caused by
changing weather conditions.
District officials said student safety remains the top priority as drivers continue routes throughout the parish. The district appreciates the understanding and cooperation of families and the community during the weather event.
