Students and staff at Villa Del Rey Creative Sciences and Arts Magnet School celebrated on Wednesday with Principal Kathie Johnson following her "cancer-free" report.
Last semester, Principal Johnson was diagnosed with large B-cell lymphoma. During that time, she made the decision to take an intermittent leave so she could continue supporting her school community while receiving chemo treatments. She wanted to ensure that her students and staff experienced as little disruption as possible. Thanks to her incredible team, everything continued to run smoothly.
“I am beyond grateful for the love and support shown to me
throughout this journey. On April 27, I proudly rang the bell, marking the completion of my treatments," she said. "Then on Wednesday, what I thought was a routine realignment meeting turned into
something unforgettable: Our entire school wore green in my honor, and the Belaire High School band led me in a personal parade celebrating this milestone. My heart is full. Thank you to my amazing staff and students for pouring into me the same way we pour into our school every day. Villa del Rey will always Dare to Be Great!"

changing weather conditions.
District officials said student safety remains the top priority as drivers continue routes throughout the parish. The district appreciates the understanding and cooperation of families and the community during the weather event.
